Author Roy Stephen Kunnel Bem

Roy Stephen Kunnel BEM grew up in India. He joined the Indian Air Force early and served for almost seventeen years. After that, he worked for five years in charity and community help in India.

In 2006, he moved to the United Kingdom and settled in Swindon. He quickly started working with local groups. He focused on migrants and British communities coming together.

He enjoys starting new projects that connect different people. He has managed community halls, led organisations, and helped many groups get public money and Gift Aid so they could stand on their own.

He takes part in hard challenges too. In 2018, he completed the Three Peaks Challenge. In 2019, he ran the Swindon Half-Marathon.

His work got noticed. In 2015, he received the Pride of Swindon Award from Swindon Borough Council. In 2017, he was given the British Empire Medal in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for building stronger community links.

He has written books in English and Malayalam before. These include Wonders of Community Inclusiveness in 2021, a collection of 21 stories in Malayalam in 2021, 50 selected articles in Malayalam in 2021, the novel Apoorva Pathakal in 2021 in Malayalam, and Koodanayatha Kottan in 2024 in Malayalam.

Rusted Rituals Retaliate is his first big novel in English. It comes from the village life he knows and the way people sometimes twist old beliefs for their own gain. He writes to make readers think about the things we follow without asking why.
